Pharmaceutical Research Institute at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
The Pharmaceutical Research Institute at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is an independent, not-for-profit research and development institute dedicated to cutting-edge research, pharmaceutical services and education in partnership with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and academic and research centers in New York State, nationally and worldwide.
Under the direction of Shaker A. Mousa, Ph.D., formerly a senior researcher at DuPont Pharmaceuticals Co., PRI-Albany conducts pre-clinical testing and clinical trials to develop drugs for transitioning to industrial manufacture. Through its research capabilities, PRI-Albany endeavors to introduce novel non-invasive methods for the diagnosis of vascular, oncological and neurological disorders.
Operating in a 5,000-square-foot laboratory and office facility, PRI's Preformulation and Stability Testing Laboratory provides essential services to biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical firms throughout New York State, the United States and the world. Our capabilities include preformulation assessments of the physiochemical properties of drug candidates, and providing quantitative data on chemical stability through testing in accordance with ICH guidelines.
This unit features sophisticated testing equipment to allow us to perform X-ray powder diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, dynamic vapor sorption determination, HPLC and GC chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, Karl Fisher titrimetry and optical microscopy. We employ morphology, crystalline or amorphous nature determination and particle size distribution, dissolution testing, excipient compatibility, flowability, compatibility and hygroscopicity profile.
In addition to the capabilities of our Preformulation and Stability Testing Laboratory, we also can offer your organization a broad range of drug discovery and development services. PRI is equipped to do pharmacokinetic studies, screen for plasma protein binding and conduct permeability studies. PRI also is expanding our utilization of nanotechnology. Through all of its components, PRI-Albany's primary objective is to enrich and advance pharmaceutical education by providing hands-on access to the full spectrum of drug development.
